Week #3
Although last week's games weren't 100% accurate, I am making progress towards success!! Now, this week is week 3 in high school football and week 2 in college, and I did better among the college ranks than I did in high school. But, that's just the way the ball bounces, I suppose! :) Looking ahead, several high school teams are already in region play and some are just getting started this week. So, let's get started, shall we?

Auburn vs. Miss. State Auburn is coming off a impressive win over Arkansas State with Cam Newton leading the way. Mississippi State's win over Memphis was just as impressive. If Auburn can continue to utilize the talent just waiting for a chance to explode, then this game will be fun to watch......give the win to
Auburn 32-21
Penn State vs Alabama Seems like just yesterday when these two teams met....wait, it's been over 10 years since they've met!!! Joe Pa is bringing into to T-Town a team that would love nothing more than to knock off the reigning national champions and the current #1 team in the nation, but I think the Nittnay Lions are going to have their hands quite full with a team that is talented, young, and hungry to prove that last year was not a fluke.....give the win to............Alabama, 45-28
UAB vs. SMU The Blazers are heading into Texas to take on the Mustangs of SMU, which at one time, was a threat to take on the bigger boys of Texas. UAB, on the other hand, falls behind the three bigger schools in Alabama.....but I think the Blazers could prove to be more than the Mustangs are bargaining for.....UAB, 27-14.
Troy vs. Oklahoma State It wasn't so long ago that the Trojans jumped onto the national spotlight by defeating the Cowboys of OSU. Troy has proven that they can play with the elite teams of the BCS and the nation. Give this one to.........Troy, 28-21

Week #2
Okay, so last week being my first week throwing predcitions out, I was 9 of 18.....a so-so way to start the week off, but with the college teams taking the field this week, maybe I can bring up my percentange some what! I would like to just state here that being both a Auburn University fan and Houston Co. High fan, I will have to be as impartial as possible (laughs to self), but I will be fair about everything I post. As mentioned earlier, your comments are very welcomed here, even if you are a Alabama, Georgia, or Florida fan. Not everyone can be a Auburn fan you know! ;) So, with all that on the table, lets' sit down and chew on some football for the week!
High School Week 2
Class 6A
Auburn vs. Dothan.....Dothan is looking to keep the momentum rolling this week as they prepare to take on the Tigers of Auburn, but I think Auburn may be too strong, so give this one to Auburn
Enterprise vs. Northview....Both teams are coming off big wins, Enterprise winning over Sidney Lanier and Northview taking a victory over Rehobeth. This week, already sets the stage for who has the advantage in the region. Overall, I think Enterprise will continue to roll...this one goes to Enterprise.
Class 5A
Carroll vs. Russell Co. ..... Carroll is coming off a loss to Andalusia in it's season opener and I really don't think it's going to get much better...........Russell Co.
Tallassee vs. Charles Henderson.....Charles Henderson coming off a win over Beauregard starts their season off on a good note. I think they can keep it going...........Charles Henderson.
Booker T. Washington vs. Eufaula.....After losing last week to cross county rival, Abbeville, I think the Tigers are looking for a little bit of revenge.............Eufaula
Valley vs. Rehobeth....Losing to Northview last week was not the way the Rebels wanted to begin their season. Facing a team such as Valley, who they lost to last year 29-6, will be a bigger challenge for the Rebs. In this contest the ball goes to.............Valley.
Class 4A, Region 2
Alabama Christian vs. Andalusia.... With the win over Carroll of Ozark last week, Andalusia is kicking it's season off well and should easily continue to roll...........Andalusia
Ashford vs. Bullock Co...... Ashford looks alot better in person than on paper, with a tough defense and an offense that will take advantage of an opening, I think the Yellow Jackets are looking to prove that they can win and win big.......Ashford.
Headland vs. Hillcrest (Evergreen).... Headland's win over Dale Co. last week showed that they have improved from the past few years, however, Hillcrest could present the Rams with the first challenge since moving up to 4A....give this one to.........Hillcrest.
St. James vs. Straughn...... This one is a little tougher for me to call.....but I'm going to go with....Straughn.
Class 3A, Reg. 2
Luverne vs. Abbeville.... Abbville had a big win over Eufaula last week, but I think the Yellow Jackets may stumble in this one......Luverne.
Geneva vs. Dale Co. ... Both teams are looking to rebound from opening season losses and this one should be for the home team, but Geneva should overpower the Warriors......Geneva.
Daleville vs. Opp... Daleville will be too much for the Bobcats from Opp...Daleville.
Pike Co. vs. Slocomb... This one won't be a close one at all......Pike Co.
Class 2A, Reg.2
Goshen vs. Elba..... This should be a easy one for the always dangerous Tigers from Elba......Elba.
New Brockton vs. Red Level.... The Gamecocks will pull out the victory here after last week's loss to Providence....New Brockton.
Highland Home vs. Samson... Samson's win over Florala last week gives the Tigers some momentum, and I hope they can continue.....Samson.
Zion Chapel vs. Calhoun... Not getting easier for the Rebels.....Calhoun.
Class 2A, Reg 3
Cottonwood vs. Ariton.... Cottonwood is looking to step up in the region with a win over Ariton. The Bears look better than they have recently and will be hard to stop.......Cottonwood.
Barbour Co. vs. G.W. Long... The Jags are also looking to be a contender in this region, but it's not going to be easy as the next two games after this one are all region games. The Rebels could put up a fight, but the Jags are going to be too much..........Barbour Co.
MY GAME OF THE WEEK: Houston Co. vs. Houston Academy...This game has alot on the line for both teams. HA is coming off a win (barely) over Montgomery Academy and showed some sparks along the way. Houston Co. is coming off a loss to rival Ashford that was closer than the scored showed. This game is a key game for Houston Co. as it would not only boost their confidence, but would help them in the region. HA is showing that despite losing most of it's team from graduation, they are still a team to be dealt with and I think that if Houston Co. comes out playing defense and playing it continually.....well......here's who will win................Houston Co.
Providence vs. Wicksburg... The Panthers proved me wrong last week by handing Geneva Co the loss. The Panthers are dangerous on both sides of the ball and will give the Eagles more than they can handle......Wicksburg.
Class 1A, Reg 2
Florala vs. Butler Co. Magnet School... Florala
J.F. Shields vs. Geneva Co. ... Not getting any easier for the Bulldogs of Geneva Co. ....J.F. Shields
Kinston vs. Brantley.... Brantley is just too overpowering for Kinston.....Brantley.
AISA
Class AAA, Reg. 1
Macon-East vs. Pike Liberal Arts.... The Patriots of Pike Lib are looking to return to the state championship game and so far, they look like they are picking up where they left off last year.....Pike Liberal.
Class AA, Reg. 1
Lakeside vs. Ashford Academy... The Falcons of Ashford Academy need this win to boost their confidence, but I think the Chiefs are going to walk away from this one.....Lakeside.
Class A, Reg.1
Abbeville Christian vs. Chambers... Both schools are equally talented, but give the nod to......Chambers.
Okay, now that the high school picks are done, let's get on the the college games this coming weekend!!! If you are like me, you have been waiting for this day since last year!!! So, let's get this one on the ground and rolling!!!
Arkansas State vs. Auburn. I really don't want to state the obvious, but playing Auburn at home is rarely a good thing for the opposing team. The noise, the crowd.....oh, and of course....AUBIE!! The Tigers seem to be overlooked by the media and such, but that's okay...we like flying below the radar!! It could be close, but I dont' think so...............AUBURN.
Alabama vs. San Jose State...... Now, being ranked number 1 and living up to the hype will be a test for the Crimson Tide....but it won't be in this game.......ALABAMA.
UAB vs. Florida Atlantic..... The Blazers keep getting better and better every year and although the spotlight is on the "other" teams, they could very well be playing with the bigger boys one day........UAB.
Bowling Green vs. Troy.... Although losing key players to the NFL and graduation, the Trojans should easily be returning to a bowl game this year....good way to start off the year......TROY.
So, there we have it for this week! Again...if you'd like to share comments or suggestions, email me at agwade1@rocketmail.com
Until next week!!
High School Week 2
Class 6A
Auburn vs. Dothan.....Dothan is looking to keep the momentum rolling this week as they prepare to take on the Tigers of Auburn, but I think Auburn may be too strong, so give this one to Auburn

Let's get started!!
The poll question is: What is your favorite thing about high school football?
Okay, so the first outing for the Houston Co. Lions was not very successful against the Ashford Yellow
Jackets, but it was a sign that we have several talented members on this team that can compete against bigger teams. Yes, losing 41-18 was not good, but several key plays kept us in the game until the last quarter. That being said, this blog is just my way of not only keeping up with the Lions, but to also make a few of my own predicitions of the other local high school games going on around us this year, as well as make my predictions of Alabama, Auburn, Troy and UAB games. Hey, we gotta share the love! So, included each week will be a poll that I hope you will participate in as well leave your comments and spread the good news that someone is keeping up with what's going on. Feedback is not required, but will be appreciated! I hope you all enjoy this format and the upcoming football season! Go out and support your local team as this helps support the school! So.....here we go!!!
Week 1 High School
We'll begin with the 6A guys first
Enterprise v. Sidney Lanier
Well, being that Enterprise is playing on their new field, I think the Wildcats will be tough to handle. Adversity tends to make one stronger, and with all that the Wildcats have been through and the fact that they are coming off a great season, I'm going with Enterprise in this contest.
Northview v. Rehobeth
Rehobeth is rebounding from a year that I'm sure they would soon like to forget. Northview struggled as well last year, so this game is a good way for them to kick off the season. I'm giving the nod to the Cougars of Northview.
5A
Carroll v. Andalusia
Okay, I have to be honest here, I know more about Carroll than I do Andalusia, soooooo......this one will go to Carroll.
Charles Henderson v. Beauregard
After the performance against Pike Co. in their jamboree game, I think Charles Henderson will pull this one out....my vote....Charles Henderson
Eufaula v. Abbeville
This should be an interesting game. Both teams are known to be powerhouses that can dominate a game if given the opportunity. The team that has the edge in this game will be Eufaula.
4A
Headland v. Dale County
A early rivalry game, this game has the potential to be wildly entertaining. The team that can jump out early, keep the lead and make the least mistakes, hold the key to being victorious ( yes, i know that seems obvious, but it's harder to actually do than say) so, I'm going to give the nod here to the Headland Rams.
3A
Daleville v. Bullock County
Well, I'll tell ya, I think I'm going to have to go with Daleville here. Enough said.
Geneva v. Straughn
The Panthers are always a threat to come out of the gate running, and yes, I admit, knowing little about Straughn, I think I'll go with Geneva here.
Opp v. Elba
Elba is returning from a year that saw them go well into the state playoffs, only to lose to Washington Co.. Elba is a strong, young team that will very well return to the playoffs. Opp is a young team as well, and could benefit from a win over the Elba Tigers, but in the end, I'm going with Elba to win this one.
Pike County v. Notasulga
Pike Co. is working on returning to the top of the 3A standings this year and reclaim a state title. Notasulga, well, honestly, I have no idea., but I think that the team to come out on top in this one, Notasulga.
2A Region 2
New Brockton v. Providence Christian
Providence Christian moves up to 2A this year after being rather successful in 1A. Being in competition with the other 2A schools could prove to be a very steep hill to climb for the Eagles. Their first challenge will be facing the Gamecocks of New Brockton. If Providence is successful, it would certainly boost their confidence for the rest of the year, but I think New Brockton can put up the numbers in order to take the win.
Samson v. Florala
With both teams coming off of a 1-9 season, each team is looking to start this year with some momentum to carry them through the rest of the year. Samson gets the nod here.
Zion Chapel v. Pleasant Home
Zion Chapel could make this a contest, but not being completely aware of Pleasant Home, I'm giving the nod to Zion Chapel.
2A Region 3
Ariton v Kinston
If last year's game tells you anything, Ariton won 35-32, well, then hold on to your hat....this could be another barn burner. I've seen Kinston early on in jamboree and if they play with the tenacity they did in the jamboree, they could win. Give the nod to Kinston.
Barbour Co. v. Stewart Co. (Ga.)
The Jags beat Stewart Co. a year ago 16-0, and the Jags are returning several key players. I think the Jags could be a team to contend with in the 2A area. Give the win to Barbour Co.
Houston Academy v. Montgomery Academy
It's well known that graduation was not kind to HA, leaving only two returning starters from a team that gave many area teams a run for their money last year. If HA can get a win here, it would be a boost to a team who must face a schedule of foes looking to get revenge from last year. The nod here goes to Houston Academy.
Wicksburg v. Geneva County
Like Providence, Wicksburg makes the leap into 2A territory. But the Panthers begin their season against 1A foe, Geneva County, a team coming off a 7-4 season. Wicksburg could be an early threat to most teams in the area, but I think the Bulldogs will come on top here. The win goes to Geneva County.
AISA
Lakeside v. Springwood School
With Lakeside returning several key starters, the Chiefs should avenge last year's lost to Springwood. Give the win to the Chiefs.
Okay, that's my calls for the week. Keep in mind I may "tweak" the format over the next several weeks in order to keep it short and sweet. Again, feedback is always welcome! Next week I'll include the upcoming college games. So, if you want your opinion known, email me at agwade1@rocketmail.com
